The state of Oklahoma was originally Indian Territory. Tribes from the eastern U.S. also settled here after being displaced by American settlers. Later, Oklahoma City became a center of the cattle trade; its stockyards are still among the worlds largest. Colorful Indian festivities are still held in Oklahoma City and nearby communities. Tahlequah, Oklahoma is the Tribal capital of the Cherokee Nation. The Cowboy Hall of Fame, a treasure of national heritage, receives many visitors to its museum of Western art and artifacts. The city is also noted for its importance in the petroleum industry. Oklahoma City boasts the only capitol building in the U.S. with working oil wells on its grounds.
ACE's OBJECTIVES
ACE staff and Area Coordinators and Representatives in local communities work together to ensure student success, safety and security. Each student stays with a qualified host family and becomes part of that family. The student participates in all aspects of the host family's lifestyle and activities. The student attends regularly high school and is encouraged to take part of extra curricula activities.
ACE expects the highest standards of behavior from program participants at all times and, in turn, sets principals and regulations for the welfare and safety of the students throughout the program.
